Special and Unique Holidays: September 2013

Special and Unique Holidays: September 2013

There is something special and unique to celebrate every day, 365 days a year! Some holidays are more traditional~Valentine's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving~some are a bit unconventional. There is NEVER a bad reason to celebrate!

September is probably best known for the following "holidays": Labor Day and Remembrance

September 2nd ~ Labor Day (Most cities and towns have a large event planned during the holiday weekend. In Parker, CO residents and visitors are invited to Smokin' Brew BBQ, a competition BBQ event hosted by the Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club.)

September 8th ~ Grandparent's Day

September 11th ~ Remembrance (Our Rotary Club will be delivering breakfast to our local first responders~Fire and Police departments.)

I'm a FOODIE, so you'll notice that some of the September "holidays I decided to highlight are food related. I just can't help myself!

September 5th ~ Be Late for Something Day National Cheeseburger Day

September 12th ~ Chocolate Milk Shake Day (Make mine a malted milk shake, please!)

September 18th ~ National Cheeseburger Day

September 22nd ~ Elephant Appreciation Day (You might want to plan a day to visit the zoo.)

(Every day in September is something special. To view the entire month visit the Holiday Insights website.)

Donna these are fun! Who knew there was an Elephant day! I'd like roll the chocoloate milk shake and cheesebuyers into one day - at a great restaurant (dive) in MPLS.  Yummy!

Hi Donna, great list!  I especially like the Chocolate Milk Shake and National Cheeseburger Days.  This sounds like it should be at a diner on the same day -- what a cute and fun list.  Thanks for sharing!

Scott~ Seems there are quite a few foodies in the Rain!

Anna~ EVERYONE needs to be appreciated, including Elephants! LOL!

Karen~ I agree with you and Anna, they should be celebrated on the same day! They go together perfectly!

Count me in for elephant appreciation day; I love those guys. I'll have to head over to Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa. Hope we can work something out for a meet up when you come down.

Elephant appreciation day come on now who comes up with these idea anyway?  :)

We have always celebrated Grandparents' Day until they passed away!  But, I can get into the chocolate ice cream treats and cheeseburgers.  Hmm.... elephants.  We have a collection of crystal, wood, glass and others, but I don't know any personally.  However, Chief Cook would always start her day at the Renaissance Festival in Shakopee by riding one!

Debbie R.~ I just want to celebrate LIFE!

John~ I like the idea of non-traditional reasons to celebrate.

Bob~ Elephants seem to be a popular collectible item. These days I'm collecting shot glasses for our basement rec room (which does not currently exist)!

Toni~ I haven't been to the zoo at all this year and September would be a good time to go!

James~ They deserve appreciation! They are magnificent animals!

Ron~ We have a Renaissance Festival close to home every year, but I've never been. Wonder if they have elephants?

Donna, I enjoyed your lighthearted post.  I can't believe the holiday for September 5th.  I like the idea of appreciating the elephants.  That might be a good day to make a donation to wildlife.  Thank you for posting these unique holidays.
