National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day: 4/26/14

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day: 4/26/14

It's time for Spring Cleaning and that includes ALL the rooms and spaces in your house...bedrooms, kitchen, closets, cabinets...the bathroom and the medicine cabinet! Do you have unused, expired or unwanted prescription drugs taking up space in your medicine cabinet, in a drawer, or under the sink in your bathroom? Maybe you have a few in your beside table or nightstand. Perhaps in a kitchen drawer or cabinet. Not sure what to do with them? Here's the answer.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day: Saturday, 4/26/14

What is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day?
It's an opportunity to properly dispose of those unused, expired and unwanted prescription drugs I just mentioned. Gather up the pills and take them to local law enforcement*. They will take them, no questions asked and you're done!

What is the purpose of this event?
This initiative seeks to prevent increased pill abuse and theft. Furthermore, the initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet. Most of us do NOT know how to properly dispose of prescription drugs. Flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away are potential safety and health hazards.

What are the numbers?
In October 2013, responsible citizens turned in over 647,000 pounds (324 tons) of unwanted prescription drugs at more than 4,000 sites across the country.

Where do I go?
*The Parker (Colorado) Police Department, located at 18600 E. Lincoln Meadows Parkway (across from Lowes), will be participating in this event which takes place on Saturday, April 26th between 10am and 2pm.  The service is FREE and anonymous.

Are there any items that will not be accepted?
Items that CANNOT be dropped off include needles and sharps, mercury thermometers, chemotherapy and radioacive substances, pressurized cainsters and illicit drugs.

For more information about Parker's drop-off location, please call Officer Dawn Cashman @ 303.841.9800.
